I had an extremely frustrating experience with Dr. Andrew Rogers and Desert West Surgery, from the initial scheduling and procedure through months of follow up.
I initially saw Dr. Rogers for removal of a cyst on my scalp in January. Even before the surgery, communication from the office was frustrating. His scheduler was extremely difficult to reach and repeatedly did not answer or return my calls when I was trying to arrange appointments.
I also had very little communication about the actual procedure. I was not informed by Dr. Rogers about the anesthesia plan beforehand. I actually learned that I would be undergoing anesthesia when his scheduler called me to confirm the surgery. I found that extremely concerning and unsettling as a patient.
After the initial surgery, I felt there was essentially 0 postop follow up or aftercare. During my January follow up appointment, Dr. Rogers did not notice that the incision was still leaking or that cyst material remained, because he quickly glanced at the incision and sent me on my way. I later learned that the cyst had not been completely removed and required another procedure in March to address the remaining cyst wall material that he missed.
What should have been a relatively straightforward cyst removal has now turned into months of appointments, procedures, expenses and stress. As of August, the surgical site still has a small area that will not completely close and intermittently leaks.
At my most recent appointment, Dr. Rogers told me that he “did not know why the area was still not healing” and said he would follow up with his partners. Instead of personally following up with me, I was simply scheduled with another surgeon in the practice.
At that point, I decided to seek a second opinion from a dermatologist. The dermatologist examined the open wound and performed a biopsy and prescribed antibiotic ointment. I am currently waiting for the biopsy results to determine what needs to happen next.
I understand that complications can happen and that no surgery is guaranteed to have a perfect outcome. My frustration is with the lack of communication, follow up and ownership throughout this entire process. I have spent a significant amount of money, time and emotional energy dealing with an issue that began in JANUARY, and I don’t feel that my concerns have been handled with the level of care and communication I would expect from my surgeon.
I was also frustrated when I was told that I would be charged a fee at a recent follow up appointment because the previous appointment had been considered a “courtesy.” From my perspective, these have been ongoing follow up visits related to a surgical site that has still not healed, rather than unrelated “courtesy” appointments.
I am hopeful that the dermatologist will finally determine why this wound has not healed and help me resolve the problem. Based on my experience, I would not choose Dr. Rogers again or anyone at Desert West Surgery.

Dr. Reese is an excellent surgeon. I was so ill for months prior to him removing my gallbladder. I highly recommend him and all of his staff. In addition, he did my surgery at Mountainview Hospital because my gallstone was so large he was not sure he would be able to remove laparoscopically Thankfully he was able to complete the robotic assisted cholecystectomy laparoscopically. He sent me home with a drain for several days because the infection was so bad. However, I am so thankful he did not have to do an open removal because I could not afford to miss anymore work. A huge thank ypou to Dr. Reese, all of his staff and Mountainview Hospital for everything, including all the kindness.

Dr Chan is very professional . I had hernia surgery a few weeks ago with a follow up yesterday. He listens and encourages you to ask questions. He's very personable, unlike many doctors I've had through the years. The staff is great as well.

Dr Iwamoto did a Whipple Procedure on me when my lungs were at 32%. He got me through it with flying colors. Now, I don't trust anyone else. Whenever I need surgery, I will always go back to Desert West Surgery and Dr. Iwamoto.

Just had Hernia Surgery today and everything went very smooth, I've never had a great experience at a Hospital but Dr. Chan was so Professional. My Surgery was scheduled for 7:30 and they actually were ten minutes early. I live a half an hour from Southern Hill's Hospital and I was home before 11:00. They are very busy so scheduled took longer but that is why they're so booked. I hate going in for any Surgery but I highly recommend Dr. Chan and Desert West Surgery.

I have acute diverticulitis and after many attempts to cure my disease with antibiotics, the last option was to have surgery removing my sigmoid colon. I was terrified but Dr Christian Chan assured me that surgery was the best option. I had the surgery and had an ostomy. 6 months later i had the ostomy reversal/takedown. Dr Chan made me feel comfortable and explained everything that i would be experiencing. He is very professional, courteous and heartfelt. His dr/ patient relationship was exceptional and all i can say is he did a fabulous job in giving me a healthier lifestyle. Thank you Dr Chan. You did an excellent job both times.

Dr Iwamoto is very detailed and thorough with information and I felt very confident with him removing my appendix. This procedure was less painful than the gull bladder surgery I had by another physician 30 years prior . Dr Iwamoto has great bedside manner , and shows true concern before and after surgery, I was so pleased getting a phone call while recuperating at home showed how much he cares for his patients. The recovery process has been amazing and I highly recommend Dr Iwamoto. Surgery is never fun but Dr Iwamoto makes it effortless. Thank you , your patient Danielle Rose

only giving 1 star because -0- isnt an option. I was referred to Dr Reese by my primary Doctor. they didnt get the referral form. I tried for 3 weeks to contact them and finally got through after being on hold for 45 minutes. they were less than helpful. couldnt find my referral and I told them that I have the referral form and could email or text it to them. that was apparently not an option. the only option was to fax it. I dont have a fax machine and asked for an email. the do not give email address out. ok. I guess I will need to find another doctor and the lady said "I guess you will". I wouldnt use this practice now if they were the only doctors left. If they arent in the 21st century for handling referral forms, I would be worried about their technology to do a surgical procedure.

Dr. Johnson was very kind and explained the procedure clearly, which helped me feel less nervous. During the scheduling process, Lori was friendly and helpful. And she always returned my calls the same day.
It turned out that my procedure had to be done in the hospital, and Lori was able to get me a surgery date within about two weeks.
In my follow up visit, Dr. Johnson patiently answered all my questions.
19 days post surgery and I am healing quite well. A big thank you to everyone at the Cathedral Rock facility!!

Dr. Curry was understanding, explained my problem so that I understood completely. Took out my gallbladder by Robot. Very kind, the staff is friendly and helpful. Would recommend this practice.

I was admitted to Southern Hills Hospital with gallbladder issues. I was blessed to have Dr. E. Johnson as my surgeon. Although I was advised it may be an open surgery to remove the gallbladder, Dr. Johnson was able to remove it laparoscopically. I had my follow-up with Dr. Johnson yesterday. Very short wait to be seen. Staff very helpful and kind. Dr. Johnson answered all my questions without making me feel rushed. He was caring and showed concern for me as a person. I would highly recommend Dr. E. Johnson if you need surgical services.
